Safer Streets in Twerton and Whiteway

Councillors Sarah Moore and Tim Ball have requested Traffic Calming feasibility studies are carried out on Newton Road, Poolemead Road and Kelston View.  This is following concerns raised by residents on the speed of vehicles in these areas. 

 

Newton Road is already a speedwatch location and we are looking at restarting this campaign in the spring, please do get in touch if you would like to get involved.

Councillors have met with Highways Officers to discuss the deteriorating road conditions on Haycombe Drive and requested funding is found urgently. They also expressed concerns on the use of double decker buses on our narrow residential roads, as well as the damaged footpaths.

We have also again requested the resurfacing of Highland Road, Windrush Close and Dominion Road is included in the Highways programme of works as the condition of these roads is worsening and need attention.

Poolemead Road Safety

Another priority that was raised with Councillors Sarah Moore and Tim Ball by a large number of local residents was to ensure there was a safer way to cross Poolemead Road outside Twerton Infants School.

They met with Highways offices and the school’s head teacher George Samios to discuss options to slow the traffic and narrow the road to help keep all the pedestrians safe.

The above image has been drawn up following the meeting with the officers and is what is planned to be put in place as soon as it possibly can be.

Safer Roads - Kelston View

We are really pleased to let you know that following our campaigning in 2016, we have managed to get £125,000 to be put into the BANES budget from 1st April to carry out road maintenance works on Kelston View.

Whilst this is no where near enough to totally re-structure and resurface the whole road, it is a great start and we have a meeting on Friday to confirm exactly what is planned.

We will then be in a position to let you all know what is happening and what the next stage of our campaign will be.  We will not stop working on this until we have all the roads in this area up to a suitable standard.

Child Road Saftey Measures Poolemead Road

Earlier this year we moved proposals for improved road safety outside of Twerton infants school.

We are now able to tell you that it is proposed to remove the existing ‘school’ road signing and replace with new ‘children walking to school’ and ‘School’ signs on yellow backing board (so that the signs stand out to motorists). Alongside the signs on the road ‘SLOW’ road markings will be installed.

In addition to this there will be ‘20’ speed roundel installed in Poolemead Road as part of the pilot 20 mph speed limit area when this is implemented early next year.

We are pressing for these works to be carried out as soon as possible.

We are also talking to highways about what other improvements can be made to secure a safer crossing point.

Parking Restrictions at Woodhouse Road

In order to keep the roads safe new parking restrictions have been put in place on Woodhouse Road at its Junction with Nerwton Road.

New Yellow Lines have been introduced to eliminate the dangerous parking on the corners of these roads and hopefully avoid a nasty accident.
