Twerton and Whiteway Parks

In Twerton and Whiteway we are blessed with a number of green open spaces which are vital for our community. These spaces are open for the public to enjoy, here is some information about each park:

Bath and North East Somerset Council maintained parks

Pennyquick Park

This is situated on Newton Road, it is a large green space which benefits from an enclosed playground area which was replaced in 2022-2023, a single hoop Basketball area, BMX bike humps and 2 football goal posts.  It also has 4 pieces of outdoor gym equipment, 2 pieces of fully accessible play equipment and 2 picnic benches which were all installed following a successful CIL bid from Councillors Sarah Moore and Tim Ball during 2024-2025.

This park is used for a number of events throughout the year, including hosting a fairground and the Twerton Flower Show.

Innox Park

This is situated between Freeview Road and The Brow and also borders Bath City Farm. This is a large green hillside space which has an enclosed toddler and child playground area which was replaced in 2021-2022, a single hoop Basketball area, seating and a wildflower area.

This park has some lovely views across bath from the seating at the top of the park.

Curo maintained parks

Whiteway Green

This is a large green open space, which is situated between Rosewarn Close and Haycombe Drive. It has a skate ramp and goal posts with nets, it also has a Multi Use Games area with Basketball hoops and football goals which was installed following a successful combined CIL bid by Councillors Sarah Moore, Councillor Tim Ball and Curo. It also has a toddler and child playground area, which had new play equipment and a new surface installed in 2024, again following a successful CIL bid by Councillors Sarah Moore, Councillor Tim Ball and Curo. We are working closely with Curo to get this play area fenced in to make it a safer space for children to play.

Whiteway Community Association have also worked extremely hard making improvements in this park, including getting the nets for the football goals, seating and creating the memorial garden.

Woody Park

This is a small enclosed playground area in Redland Park which has swings, a climbing frame and a slide.

As both these parks are the responsibility of Curo Housing Association, any up keep and maintenance is their responsibility, however, Councillors Sarah Moore and Tim Ball do work closely with Curo to get improvements implemented in these parks.

Innox Park Improvement Project – Update May 2019

PLAY AREA IMPROVEMENTS

Work to improve the play facilities is due to start in June 2019 and, subject to weather conditions, should be complete by mid-July, in time for the school summer holidays.

The work, which has been led by feedback from the consultation, will include:

• A complete overhaul of the fenced play area with a range of new play equipment focused mainly on children up to the age of 6
• A multi-sports unit (football and basketball) with an area of synthetic grass and natural stone play boulders for older children
• New seating in the play area and a short section of path linking the play area to the existing path - making the play area more accessible

The play area will be out of bounds from early June to early July to allow work to take place safely.

Thanks to the great team at Bath & North East Somerset Parks and Open Spaces for running the consultation events and continuing to work hard to make our parks and open spaces across BANES an inviting place for all residents.

Innox Park

We have some news from the council regarding the hedges in Innox Park that were not cut last year.

Many residents have commented that the area has become rater untidy and that the hedges and bushes that overlook their homes have become rather overbearing.

The council plan to cut these bushes back at the end of winter beginning of spring before the nesting season.

This could be February or March but please don't hold us to these exact dates as they may change as we are only working from information that the council are giving us.

Individual residents that have raised specific concerns over certain hedges have been written to, if you have concerns and have not had a letter within the next week then please let us know.

innox Park improvement its time to have your say.

Innox Park Improvement Project – Have Your Say!

Bath and North East Somerset Council is asking how Innox Park can be improved for people and wildlife.

A consultation survey has been launched to understand how the park is used, what people like and dislike about it and to ask what improvements should be made.  The Council hopes that this will be the start of a long term programme of improvements for the park and to kick start the process it has set aside £79,000 of Section 106 developer contributions to spend on improvements on the ground.

Anyone with an interest in the park is invited to take part in the consultation in one of the following ways:

1)       Complete the online survey consultation at www.bathnes.gov.uk/innoxpark
2)       Come along to Innox Park between 1.30pm and 3.30pm on Saturday 8th September 2018 when members of the Council will be on hand to hear your views. Copies of the consultation survey will be available on the day
3)       Email your suggestions on how the park could be improved to parks@bathnes.gov.uk

Completed surveys must be returned by 5pm on Sunday 30th September 2018 when the initial community consultation will close.

For further information please contact the Council’s Parks Team on parks@bathnes.gov.uk

You can also let myself or Sarah know.

Pennyquick playing fields and Carrs Woodland

We are pleased that the council have listened to our demands for new and improved play equipment for our playing fields.

A paper for the release of funds for a new set of swings and Pennyquick Playing fields and the replacement of the goal posts is about to be agreed.

Carrs woodland will also benefit from a capital grant of £5,000 for entrance improvements.

This money for these projects comes from previously released developer contributions from building sites in the area.

Further monies are due to be released later this year and we are pressing for them to be spent on new and improved cycle track facilities and Pennyquick Playing fields, and improvements at Innox Park to play equipment and park infrastructure.

Protecting our open spaces

B&NES are currently working on the Placemaking Plan (part two of the new B&NES Local Plan).  The Council recently published the Options document for consultation and is intending to publish the Draft Plan in September 2015.

Gerry & Tim at Innox Park

In terms of the Placemaking Plan there is an opportunity for Parish/Town councils and for resident associations in Bath to identify green areas of particular importance to them for special protection through designation in the Placemaking Plan. Once designated these open spaces will not be developed except in very special circumstances. Local Green Space Designations need to be in accordance with the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) criteria set out below.

National policy also states that designation will not be appropriate for most green areas or open space. The designation should only be used:

  *   where the green space is in reasonably close proximity to the community it serves;
  *   where the green area is demonstrably special to a local community and holds a particular local significance, for example because of its beauty, historic significance, recreational value (including as a playing field), tranquillity or richness of its wildlife; and
  *   where the green area concerned is local in character and is not an extensive tract of land

The Liberal Democrat team in the South West of Bath, including Councillors Sharon Ball, Tim Ball, Gerry Curran, Dine Romero and Paul Crossley together with local campaigner Sarah Moore have decided to submit a request that a number of locations are considered within this area, to include The Brickfields, Hillcrest Field, Roundhill and Innox Park.

Please contact us if you feel there are other areas in the community that you would like to be considered as soon as possible as the deadline for this is 25th February 2015.

Innox Park Footpath

It was good to go along and see the progress being made on the Innox Park footpath and to link up with Alison Comely who organised a campaign to get the path installed several years ago.

The path has been wanted for many years now and links two parts of Twerton together.

As it can be seen in the picture that path is being installed at quite a pace and should be complete by the middle of the coming week.

Alison commented that "she was thrilled that the path was now in place and was grateful that the her local councillors had worked hard to secure the money to make it possible".

The path was one of the items that was in our six to fix in 2011 and we are grateful to Alison for running the campaign that gave the final push to enable the much wanted project to happen.

Innox Park Footpath

Work to create the long awaited footpath has started across Innox Park.

The new path that has been waited for many years became a reality after money was put in the budget by the Liberal Democrat run Council to make this possible.

The new path should be complete in the coming weeks and was part of the Local Twerton Councillors Six to fix promises last year.

We would like to thank Alison a local resident ( you know who you are ) for keeping on at us and pulling the community together in support of this project.

We plan more work on this path subject to budgets being available next year.

Innox Park

Spent an hour on Saturday morning clearing up litter in the park with Sarah Moore.

Although it looked like some one had cleared up quite a bit before we got there we still removed a good bag full of  rubbish.

It seems like some youths are gathering at the top of the park drinking at night, an we have asked the Police to keep an eye on this area.

Innox Park

We have asked the council to remove the fly tipping at Innox Park, this has been dumped by some inconsiderate person.

If you are aware who dumped this then please let us know so we can ensure that they are made fully aware of the consonances of their actions.

We ate meeting with council officers in the next few days to design a new path that will run across the park from The Brow to Freeview Road and will report on this item shortly.

Innox Park

We have asked the Police to increase their patrols in the Innox Park area after receiving reports of youths setting fires in the hedges behind Highland Road.

Last year we had some nasty fires there and we do not want a repeat of them.
