Shaws Way - Weeds and Rubbish

Sarah Moore next to bus stop on Shaws Way
Great walk around Twerton today with Councillor Tim Ball, shame about all the rubbish and weeds we came across.

I have requested a bin is put next to the bus stop on Shaw's Way to try and reduce the amount of litter that is constantly left on the grassed area near this bus stop.

I have also asked if the large amount of weeds that are on the steps that lead from Shaw's Way up to Sheridan Road are removed as when these get wet they are very slippery and make the steps quite hazardous.

Shaws Way - Traffic disruption 1st October

On Thursday 1st October Wessex Water will be carrying out essential work to replace covers on the section of Shaws Way, between it's junction with Newton Road and Cleeve Green.

This work is scheduled to be carried out between 9.30am and 3.00pm and is likely to cause disruption to all traffic, including busses, with potential partial or full road closure possible for some of the time.

If you will be travelling by bus, we would advise you check with the local bus companies if a planned diversion is in place or if they are continuing to run via this route during the road works.

Shaws Way, Poolemead Road

It is good to see that the new keep clear markings have been installed on both Shaws Way and Poolemead Road that we asked for some months ago.

The Shaws Way markings allow the bus enough room to get around the corner from Poolemead road without the need to mount the kerb.

The new white lines further up on Poolemead Road are a relief for local residents with walking impairments and give easier access from the road to adjacent footpaths.

Poolemead Road, Shaws Way

We have asked the council to take action to restore the damaged grass area that has been overridden by local buses.

We have also asked the council to look at the issue of parking on Shaws Way that prevents buses being able to get around the corner correctly and thus running over the curb and causing damaged to the grass area.

It is important that we get this issue resolved as soon as possible.

Fly tipping Shaws Way

We have asked the council to remove the old mattress that has been dumped by the side of 32 Shaws Way.

If you know who dumped this at this location would you please let us know so they can be recharged for its removal.

We are trying to get this area cleaned up and this irresponsible person is not helping that.

Shaws Way

It is good to see that repairs are being made to the badly worn footpath on Shaws Way that we reported some time ago.

The path shown is between number 9 & 12 and has been quite dangerous and is just one part of the repairs that are being taken across the area.

If you have concerns about any other path in the area please let us know and we will let you know if we area already dealing with it.

Shaws Way

We have asked the council to remove the fly tipping on the footpath at Shaws Way and also to carry out a full litter pick in the area.

We are concerned that a lot of litter has built up in this area that includes may drink cans and bottles.

We would expect that the council would carry out this work very shortly.

New street lights

We are pleased to see the new street lights going up in Twerton.

The new lights are low energy and emit a white light that allows people to see more clearly at night.

It is always important that residents feel safe at night and that we also ensure that we can afford as a council to keep the lights on with ever increasing energy costs and reduced council budgets.

Pavements in parts of Twerton

We have asked the council to investigate the issues of green moss growing through some of our paths in Pennard, Green Cleeve Green and Shaws way that have recently been slurry sealed to protect them from wear and tear.

We are concerned that this moss could become slippery in the winter months and want to make sure that all of our residents are safe.

The council have been quick to respond saying that they will investigate the matter and bring about a resolution as quickly as possible.

Twerton Walk around with Curo

We had a very good walk around yesterday with Curo staff  and identified some items that need to be sorted out in the area.

Many thanks to Zack and his team from Curo

Newton Road

We walked along Newton Road and resolved that there needed to be work carried out on several sets of steps pictured to put railings on and repairs made. We also looked at a garden that needed to be reseeded.

Camely Green

It has been reported that a road sign to the rear of 78 needs to be replaced we would hope that this would quickly be sorted.

Cleeve Green

We have reported the missing Road sign close to 21 Cleeve Green which we would hope to have sorted shortly.

We have also again reported the crumbling wall beside number one for urgent repair and attention.

Pennard Green

We have reported the collapsing wall by the garage block for attention although it odes not seem dangerous at the moment it requires work to be done, we have also reported the dumping of garden waste in black sacks at the same location.

Shaws Way

We have reported the condition of the road surface behind 12 and the poor condition of the footpath beside the same house as well as the condition of the path from number 3 Shaws Way up to number 12 and have asked that it us given some attention.

We have also reached agreement for a new litter bin to be placed at this bus stop, the bus stop will also have a seat.

We are still waiting for firm details and will publish these shortly.

Parking restriction review Shaws Way

We have asked that the restriction on parking at the bottom end of Shaws way, 51 to 56 is reviewed due to complaints from residents and observing bus movements in this area.

We believe that these should be looked at again in order to get improvements in this area that benefit both residents and the movement of vehicles in the area.

Shaws Way Litter problem

By Tim Ball

I have reported the problem of the amount of litter that has been accumulating on the steps between 32 & 33 Shaws Way.

I have asked that the the area is cleaned up and that it is kept monitored for a few months to ensure that this area stays clean.
