Poolemead Road - resurfacing update

After securing the significant funds in the 2023/2024 budget, Councillors Sarah Moore and Tim Ball are pleased to confirm the resurfacing of Poolemead Road is scheduled to start on 15th May 2023.

A letter will be sent to all residents prior to the commencement of the work confirming how the resurfacing will be undertaken.

This work is to resurface the remaining section of Poolemead Road from it's junction with Sheridan Road up to it's junction with Whiteway Road.

This will obviously have an impact on the bus services whilst the work takes place and we will provide an update on this as soon as it is made available.

If you have any queries, please do get in touch with either Sarah or Tim,

Poolemead Road resurfacing

Following several years of chasing, we are pleased to confirm we have now received confirmation that the funding has been secured to resurface the remaining section of Poolemead Road from its junction with Sheridan Road up to the junction with Whiteway Road.

We will confirm as soon as the actual commencement date has been agreed.

We have also had requests for double yellow lines to be put in on the bend at the top of Poolemead Road near the Junction with Sheridan Road and these have also been agreed to go into the next TRO process.

Poolemead Road improvements

Poolemead Road will be closed from the junction with Sheridan Road to just below the Centurian pub from 23rd January 2023 for approximately 2 weeks.

This is to allow long awaited improvements to be put in place to make safer crossing points for everyone but especially to the school and nursery.

These changes should slow the traffic, making it safer and easier for pedestrians to get across the road.

Unfortunately we are unable to arrange for the road resurfacing to take place at the same time, however, we are pushing to get the remainder of Poolemead Road resurfaced.

We will provide an update on bus services nearer the start date.

Poolemead Road various issues

Whilst out in Poolemead Road yesterday residents raised the following issues with us that we are now resolving.

1) We have reported the broken phone Box and asked that urgent repairs are made to it, residents can report damaged phone boxes to Open reach on 0800 061 610.

2) We have had radiators that were dumped on the grass verge removed.

3) We have requested that the litter Bin by the infant School is emptied.

4) We have written to First Bus regarding the timing of the number 5 Bus from Wedgewood Road that often does not run, we have also raised the issue of the Number 20 coming down Poolemead Road after entering from Pennyquick Hill.

5) The drain that is blocked solid by number 37 has been reported for clearance as has the drain outside the Centurion Public House.

Poolemead Road - Bin has arrived

We are really pleased to see, that after months of waiting, we finally have a bin on Poolemead Road next to the bus stop.

It may have taken a bit longer than we had hoped, but this one has now been installed and we hope it will help reduce the large amount of litter in this area.

We are continue to chase for the other bins we have been promised in Pennyquick Park and on Shaws Way/Watery Lane.

We are also monitoring litter levels elsewhere around Twerton and will look to get additional bins installed in litter hotspots in the near future.

Even More Busses through Twerton

Following my post in July concerning the state of the roads across the Twerton area, I am extremely concerned to see we now have an additional bus service running!

We now have a number 17 service being run by Wessex Connect that comes up Watery Lane, Poolemead Road, Wedgewood Road, Kelston View, North Way and then on around areas of Southdown before going back through town and up to the University of Bath.  This bus service is running from 6.45am with the last bus scheduled to come through Twerton at approx 3.15am

This now means that the above roads have almost 200 large busses EVERY DAY running on them. These are residential roads most of which are in urgent need of radical replacement as they were deemed not to be in a fit state to take the original level of bus usage, let alone the additional quantity now being run.

There is an infant school on one of the roads and large numbers of children playing near them, putting safe routes to school in danger and also increasing the risk of children not only being injured by the increased traffic, but their health will also be affected by the increased pollution being produced across this area.

I have written to the Council this morning and requested that immediate action is taken to remedy this situation.

Poolemead Road

We have been receiving many complaints from residents about their cars being damaged by lorries cutting through to Whiteway Road.

As locals will know this is a residential road that at one time had no access to Whiteway Road.

We have therefore asked that an advisory sign is placed at the Junction of Wedgewood Road with Poolemead Road advising lorries that this is not a suitable route.

It seems strange that the complaints that we receive is lorries leaving the area not entering it so at this time we are not asking for signs at the other end of Poolemead Road.

Road Safety - Poolemead Road/Sheridan Road

Following requests from residents earlier this year, it is great to see the white keep clear lines have now been painted on Poolemead Road/Sheridan Road.

The keep clear lines have been put on both sides of Poolemead Road from the Junction with Whiteway Road and also from the Junction of Sheridan Road along Poolemead Road towards the rear of the Southside Centre.

There have been a number of issues with cars, vans and even coaches parking in this area restricting traffic flow and making visibility and pedestrian safety a large concern for a number of residents.

We are hopeful this should now make the area safer for everyone, however, please do let us know if there are any continuing issues.

Twerton Infants School - Summer Fete

Friday 26th June 3.15pm to 5.30pm

Twerton Infants School, Poolemead Road, Twerton

Why not go along and support our local Infants school at their Summer Fete, that is being organised by Friends of Twerton Infants and Nursery.

There will be a BBQ, Cake Sale, Tombola, Human Fruit Machine and many more activities for all to enjoy.  Take a look here for full details.

Shaws Way, Poolemead Road

It is good to see that the new keep clear markings have been installed on both Shaws Way and Poolemead Road that we asked for some months ago.

The Shaws Way markings allow the bus enough room to get around the corner from Poolemead road without the need to mount the kerb.

The new white lines further up on Poolemead Road are a relief for local residents with walking impairments and give easier access from the road to adjacent footpaths.

Poolemaed Road

We have asked the council to introduce new white lines in front of several access paths on Poolemead Road to allow elderly and sometimes disabled residents to be able to get from the road to the safety of the footpath towards their homes.

At the moment this paths are often blocked with parked cars, the picture clearly indicate two sets of steps with lines in place and the path opposite with no lines.

We would hope that the council would be able to carry out this work quite quickly making the whole area much safer.

Poolemead Road

It was good to be out with residents of Poolemead Road on Thursday talking with them about local issues.

The reception from residents was very good many if them commenting that they were pleased that we  had resolved the parking issues at two places.

1) Having grass Crete installed.
2) Removing parking restrictions.

The other issues that we picked up on we're problems with disabled residents getting access to their homes by crossing grass areas and some residents parking over footpath access from the road.

New Double yellow lines and removal of Double yellow yellow Lines

New Schedules for no waiting restrictions have just been published and these will affect 2 Twerton Roads.

1) Waiting restrictions (  double yellow lines ) will be put into place on the northern spur of Landseer Road to ensure that emergency vehicles can gain access to Landseer Road.

2) Waiting restrictions ( double yellow lines ) will be removed from a section of Poolemead road to aid the provision of off road parking.

These have both been consulted on with local residents who support these proposals.

The new schedules take affect as of 15th October 2014

Shaws Way ( Bus stop proposals )

After receiving requests from residents for a bus Shelter at Shaws Way we are pleased to have reached a tentative agreement with council officers for a bus shelter to be placed at the current bus stop on the inward travel direction near to the Poolemead Road Junction.

We have also reached agreement for a new litter bin to be placed at this bus stop, the bus stop will also have a seat.

We are still waiting for firm details and will publish these shortly.

Poolemad Road

The consultation on the traffic regulation order for the removal of the double yellow lines opposite the Wedgewood Road roundabout will begin in the next few weeks.

The consultation will entail a local advertised sign and advertisements in the local papers inc the Bath Chronicle.

At the end of the consultation period the cabinet member will make her decision on when these lines can be removed.

Poolemead Road

We have received notice from the council that they are seeking a traffic regulation order to remove double yellow lines on a section of Poolemead Road between 57 & 43.

This is in line for what residents have asked for and has been supported by Twerton Ward Councillors.

This will enable additional off road parking and not necessarily on road parking.

If you have any concerns about these proposals please let us know.

Poolemead Road

Plasti grass has now been installed at Poolemead Road where the area was full of ruts where cars had been pulling off of the road.

The project was paid for by the use of the ward councillor initiative funds made available by Councillor Tim Ball.

This road has been an area that we have needed to resolve for quite some time now and it was part of our six to fix promises before to 2011 local elections.

Poolemead Road grass verges good news

As in our promises made to residents pre the local elections in 2011 we are please to announce that we are now able to go ahead with the installation of grass Crete at Poolemead Road.

Grass Crete will allow parking on the grass verges where there are no double yellow lines and will clear up the damage highlighted in this picture opposite.

This is another of our six to fix promises that we made to residents that is being achieved.

The finances have been made available by the two local Liberal Democrats Tim Ball & Gerry Curran Councillors ward initiative fund that allows Councillors a limited budget to spend on important local issues.

The proposals are:

1.       From the telephone box down to the vehicular access into Poole House  40metres x 1.5 metres

2.       From the vehicular access to Poole House down towards Garrick Road junction (to stop at the double yellow lines)

3.       Reinstate grass verge behind the yellow lines.

We would hope that this work would be carried out later this year.

Double Yellow Lines

The issue of Double Yellow Lines has become an issue in several parts of Twerton in recent months

The law states that the double yellow must apply from the centre line of the road to the property boundary so the Council have no discretion on that but to enforce any parking infringement.

The Council have stepped up its enforcement through efficiency gains and it is unearthing a few of these type of problems which in the past have gone unenforced.

We have arranged a meeting with officers of the council next week to resolve some of the anomalies that have been unearthed and a resolution to the problem will be consulted upon with residents before being put into place.

The main area that this has been a problem is Poolemead Road where we are also resolving other issues and we hope that we can resolve these problems.
