Lower Bristol Road - Overhanging Vegetation

After raising concerns that the vegetation that is overhanging the footpath and obscuring road signs and traffic lights, we have had confirmation that Network Rail are going to attend and clear this.

The section of footpath opposite MacDonalds on the Lower Bristol Road has both shrubs and branches overhanging and obscuring road signs and the traffic lights.  It is now so overgrown that some areas are very dangerous to pedestrians and cyclists as well as almost totally obscuring the traffic lights at the junction with the turning into Twerton High Street.

Linley Close - Flytipping

This is a regular occurrence in the garage area behind the Centurian and is totally unacceptable.  Residents are fed up that just a few people still think they can just dump their rubbish and expect it to be taken away for them.

I have asked that this is removed and cleaned up as soon as possible and solutions are sought to prevent this from constantly re-occurring.

Pennyquick Park - Issues

I was alerted to a broken fence at the play area in Pennyquick Park via Facebook today.  I have reported this to the council to be properly repaired, however, to ensure children can continue to safely play in this area I have visited the park and made a temporary repair.

I have also contacted BT again to ask that they either fully repair the damaged telephone box at the entrance to the park or remove it, as it is of little use to anyone in the condition it is currently in.

Walwyn Close - Bin store issues

I had a busy day out around Twerton today, however, I am really disappointed that the overflowing bins at Walwyn Close that I reported yesterday are even worse today!

I did ask that these were sorted yesterday, however, someone has decided they would dump a whole load of bedroom furniture by the bins and expect someone else to get rid of them.

Whilst household waste is meant to be collected, furniture is not and this is classed as flytipping.  I have asked both the Council and Curo to investigate this and find a solution that will prevent this from continuously occurring.  It is not fair on the majority of the residents in this area that they have to leave their properties to be presented with this view.

Working together we can make Twerton an amazing place, however, this type of behaviour has to be stopped.

Major Bus Disruption - 28th May to 30th May

Following our recent notices to confirm roads in Twerton will be closed for essential resurfacing work, we now have confirmation that the Bus service during this time will be badly affected.

We appreciate this is frustrating for a number of residents, but it is hoped that the road repairs will improve the travel through these areas.

Below are details of the altered routes proposed during this period:

Service 20 on Tuesday 28th & Wednesday 29th May (09:00-16:00 each day)

Between University of Bath and Lymore Avenue (near Oldfield Park) the bus will continue to serve the normal route in both directions. However the bus will then not serve Shophouse Road, Twerton High Street, Watery Lane or Poolemead Road in either direction. Instead, the bus will divert via The Hollow, Kelston View and Wedgwood Road to get to/from the start/end point at the junction of Poolemead Road and Wedgwood Road.

Service U2 on Tuesday 28th & Wednesday 29th May (09:00-16:00 each day)

Between University of Bath and Lymore Avenue (near Oldfield Park) the bus will continue to serve the normal route. However the bus will then not serve Shophouse Road, Twerton High Street, Watery Lane or Poolemead Road. Instead, the bus will divert via The Hollow, Kelston View and Wedgwood Road to get to the triangle at the junction of Poolemead Road and Wedgwood Road. It will then loop around the trees and resume its usual route back to the University via Whiteway, Mount Road, Rush Hill and on through Odd Down.

Service 5 on Tuesday 28th & Wednesday 29th May (09:00-16:00 each day)

Between Bath Bus Station and McDonald’s (Twerton Bridge) on Lower Bristol Road the bus will continue to serve the normal route in both directions. However the bus will not serve Twerton High Street, nor the normal stops on Newton Roadin either direction. Instead, the bus will continue along Lower Bristol Road to The Globe Roundabout and then along Pennyquick to rejoin its normal route up to Haycombe Cemetery. The bus will continue on its normal route through Whiteway, down Poolemead Road and left along Shaw’s Way. After Shaw’s Way the bus will turn left onto Newton Road and right onto Pennyquick to get to The Globe Roundabout, before travelling via the A4 and Lower Bristol Road to rejoin its usual route at McDonald’s (Twerton Bridge).

Service 5 on Thursday 30th & Friday 31st May (09:00-16:00 each day)

The majority of Service 5’s route will be as per usual, but there will be some diversions, meaning Walwyn Close, Twerton School and Redland Park stops will not be served in either direction. On the way to Whiteway, after Twerton High Street the bus will turn left and divert along Watery Lane and Shaw’s Way before rejoining the normal route at the far end of Newton Road, missing out the stops listed above. After continuing with its normal route through Whiteway, the bus will travel down Poolemead Road but instead of turning left onto Shaw’s Way will turn right onto Watery Lane, missing out the stops on Shaw’s Way and the stops on Newton Road listed above. After Watery Lane the bus will rejoin its normal route at Twerton High Street and continue on to Bath Bus Station.

North Way - Road resurfacing

We have had confirmation that following our successful campaign, North Way will be resurfaced this year.  A start date is yet to be confirmed, however, we are expecting this to be completed before October 2019.

We have asked that the work is completed out of term time, to minimise the disruption to the bus service as the road will need to be closed.

Diversions will be put in place and we will confirm the full details of this as soon as it has all been confirmed.

Innox Park Improvement Project – Update May 2019

PLAY AREA IMPROVEMENTS

Work to improve the play facilities is due to start in June 2019 and, subject to weather conditions, should be complete by mid-July, in time for the school summer holidays.

The work, which has been led by feedback from the consultation, will include:

• A complete overhaul of the fenced play area with a range of new play equipment focused mainly on children up to the age of 6
• A multi-sports unit (football and basketball) with an area of synthetic grass and natural stone play boulders for older children
• New seating in the play area and a short section of path linking the play area to the existing path - making the play area more accessible

The play area will be out of bounds from early June to early July to allow work to take place safely.

Thanks to the great team at Bath & North East Somerset Parks and Open Spaces for running the consultation events and continuing to work hard to make our parks and open spaces across BANES an inviting place for all residents.
