Lower Bristol Road Lidl entrance

It has been of concern for some time now that the entrance and exit from the Lidl site was only an accident waiting to happen, it is with that regard that a meeting was held with senior highway officers a few weeks ago where solutions to the problem was discussed.

At the end of the meeting agreement was reached to have a yellow hatched box put in place on the Lidl side opposite to Jews Lane to help regulate the traffic flows and to allow traffic to safely exit the site.

Lidl update

 As they say every picture tells a story well these two certainly do.

Top left shows a Lidl Sore with shelves stocked and ready to open as planned and we know that the community can't wait to get into the store.

In contrast picture to the right BT still working on a job that should have been finished months ago.

Lidl delayed

Our colleagues in Westmoreland Ward are reporting the following story about the delay in Lidl opening we share the disappointment for our Twerton residents

We are disappointed to report that Lidl have informed us that they are unable to open their new store at the Former Herman Miller site on the Lower Bristol Road on 19th February.

Although the store is virtually finished and even has food and goods going on the shelves they will not be able to open on that date through no fault of their own.

Lidl had arranged as far back as last August for BT to carry out works to move one of their connection boxes that form part of the new entrance to the car park and even paid in advance for the work to be carried out.

BT for their part arrived on site last week after the intervention of the Council in assisting Lidl who could not get commitment from BT when they we going to carry out the required work.

BT state that the work could take 3 more weeks and that is what the delay is. We are sure that BT knew that the works would take this long when they were first approached by Lidl and if so why have they failed to organise themselves to meet their obligations.

It seems ironic that it is the same BT that delayed the opening of the new Sainsbury's store in Keynsham not so long ago.

We await the apology from BT to all our local residents who have waited so long for this store to open but this is with baited breath.

As to the date of the opening of Lidl we will keep residents informed.

LIdl get go ahead

Planning permission has today been granted for the development of the western half of the former Herman Miller building on Lower Bristol Road as a Lidl supermarket.  

 

This will provide a valuable additional facility for local residents on the western side of Bath as well as generating new jobs.  

 

The building, half of which will be used for the new Lidl, is Grade II listed, and this permission will secure its future. 

 

Tim Ball, Cabinet Member for Homes and Planning, said, “The Council have been very proactive with Lidl’s to bring the permission toward a conclusion. We are really pleased that a new lower-cost shop will soon be available for the residents in this part of the city as well as creating new jobs.  It will provide a much-needed facility as well as finding a new use for a listed building that can contribute towards the city’s overall regeneration.”

 

It is hoped that the granting of this permission may also prove to be a catalyst for the development of the eastern half of the building, which is in separate ownership.  A previous planning application for this part of the building was agreed subject to the completion of a legal agreement, but this has never been completed by the site owners.

 

Lidl latest

There at last seems to be light at the end of the Tunnel on this long running saga as all parties now seem to be ready to sign the legal agreements that will allow Lidl on the Lower Bristol Road to become a reality.

We again keep our fingers crossed as we have been very close to this position before.

Lidl Latest

The latest update in the Saga about the probability of Lidl taking over the former Herman Miller Site.

The Council tell us that the planning permission will be granted once the legal agreements for improvements to such items as highway improvements are signed by the developer.

This has been going on for nearly four years now and I am looking forward to seeing this site cleared up and a new supermarket and associated shops on site.

Many local people have been telling us that they would welcome a Lidl on this site and we hope that this time it will become a reality.
