Bath Road and travel improvements

Essential work to fix roads and improve walking, wheeling and cycling routes across Bath city centre is being carried out from the end of May onwards.

Engineering works in Manvers Street will started from 26 May for six months, while works on walking, wheeling and cycling improvements in Bridge Street are set to start on the same date for three weeks.

Bath & North East Somerset Council anticipates some disruption to travel times and is encouraging people to make the most of its Park & Ride services. Services run regularly from sites around Bath (Newbridge, Odd Down and Lansdown), making it easier to visit shops, attractions and workplaces.

Ongoing improvements to put in segregated cycle ways across the city and improved access along the Bath River Line are also being carried out throughout the summer and into the autumn.

Construction of these projects may cause some delays however the council is committed to keeping this to a minimum and has worked closely with contractors and utility companies to coordinate works. Works are also set to be completed before the Bath Christmas Market begins in November. People can check routes on One Network.

Councillor Lucy Hodge, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Transport Delivery, said: “Work on Manvers Street is essential and necessary to ensure the long-term safety and resilience of the road, and to prevent issues occurring with vaults underground, like we’ve already seen in St James’s Parade.

“We appreciate there’s never an ideal time for maintenance works and we are working to minimise disruption. These improvements bringing smoother journeys, safer streets, better walking, wheeling and cycling routes and cleaner air will provide long term benefits for all our communities.”
