Linley Close litter and rubbish update

As many of you will be aware, we have been dealing with the on-going issue of litter and rubbish in Linley Close.

We have been working closely with Curo and BANES to reach a solution to help keep this area clean and are pleased that they have now carried out works to help reduce this issue.





As you will see from these pictures, it is an improvement and hope that all residents will benefit from this.

We will, of course, continue to monitor the area and make sure this solution works for all.

Daily updates

It's been fun out there today whilst visiting residents in Sheridan Road, Shaws Way and Poolemead Road.

I've drunk so much tea that i've even had to turn some down today or I would have burst.

We have  been dealing with housing issues, parking problems, HMO issues as well as problems with litter.

All these issues are resolvable and will be dealt with as it's part of engaging with the community and listening to them rater than dictating to them.

Poolemead Road various issues

Whilst out in Poolemead Road yesterday residents raised the following issues with us that we are now resolving.

1) We have reported the broken phone Box and asked that urgent repairs are made to it, residents can report damaged phone boxes to Open reach on 0800 061 610.

2) We have had radiators that were dumped on the grass verge removed.

3) We have requested that the litter Bin by the infant School is emptied.

4) We have written to First Bus regarding the timing of the number 5 Bus from Wedgewood Road that often does not run, we have also raised the issue of the Number 20 coming down Poolemead Road after entering from Pennyquick Hill.

5) The drain that is blocked solid by number 37 has been reported for clearance as has the drain outside the Centurion Public House.

HMO Planning application 21 Shaws Way Twerton

We have a planning application submitted for the conversion of 21 Shaws Way a 3 bedroomed dwelling House into a 4 bedroomed house of multiple occupation.

Redland Park

We have been out and about talking with residents across the whole area and have picked up various issues in Redland Park.

1) We have asked Curo to install a new handrail at the steep steps at Woodview Terrace.

2) We have asked that all the parking bays are remarked so that it is easier to park.

3) We have asked for several vehicles that are not compliant with Tax and/or MoT to be removed.

4) We have had several lots of rubbish removed.

5) We are working with the Council and Curo to have the area behind st Michael's Junior School cleaned up.

6) We are constantly asking for maintenance to the lights that are owned by Curo even some that burn all day.

7) The area that is Carrs Woodland is full of rubbish some that has been tipped there and needs to be cleaned up. We are working with the Carrs Woodland group to arrange a good clear up.

We are writing to inform you that an Appeal has been made to the Planning Inspectorate in respect of the above development.  The appeal is against the decision of the Local Planning Authority to refuse planning permission for the development described above.  Permission was refused for the reason(s) set out as follows:

 1 The proposed use of the property as a six bedroom HMO is likely to lead to an adverse effect on the amenity of nearby residents and lead to an unacceptable impact on highway safety, contrary to policies D6 and ST7 of the Bath and North East Somerset Placemaking Plan.

It has been agreed that the appeal should be dealt with on the basis of an exchange of written statements from both parties and a site visit by an Inspector appointed by the Planning Inspectorate.

Local Elections - scheduled 2nd May

Local Council elections for Bath & North East Somerset are due to be called this month and are scheduled to take place on Thursday 2nd May 2019.  This is your opportunity to vote for the people you want to represent your views on local issues.  There have been some changes made this year, such as the number of Councillors that will cover the whole of Bath and North East Somerset which has been reduced from 65 to 59 and the areas these Councillors cover have also changed.

Tim Ball and Sarah Moore have been selected to stand for election in Twerton and Whiteway Ward, this will now include Haycombe Drive, Rosewarn Close, Blagdon Park and a few houses on Whiteway Road as well as Shophouse Road.




Please remember you have 2 votes in this election and you should use both your votes to elect the candidates you think will continue to work hard for you and represent you on LOCAL issues and LOCAL services.  The Liberal Democrat candidates standing in the South West of Bath have not only carried out a large amount of personal casework, but have all got a considerable amount of issues resolved out in the community. These votes should be about who you think will be there for you.

Freeview Road - parking updates


We have been alerted to a leaflet being put out in Freeview Road today. we understand leaflet was talking about parking bays and not the funding that we have secured putting in grass crete to allow parking on the grass areas.

Councillor Tim Ball and Sarah Moore have carried out a considerable amount of work on this issue including meetings, emails and telephone conversations, we first received firm costings for the work in September 2016 and have been fighting hard to get a resolution.

We are really pleased to have received the below confirmation this morning that shows money has been allocated for some of the parking improvements to be made on Freeview Road.

Following our telephone conversation I can confirm funding that was recommended by Bath City Forum was signed off through a single member decision that was cleared in 18th September

£14,400 allocation from the Bath CIL neighbourhood portion for application BA-036, a contribution towards parking improvements located at Site C, Freeview Road, Twerton Bath.  
£19,600 allocation from the Bath CIL neighbourhood portion for application BA-037, a contribution towards parking improvements located at Site E, Freeview Road, Twerton Bath.

We will of course continue to fight to find more funding to carry out additional works on other areas of the road and will provide an update on this when we receive it.
