Dear Residents,
As you may be aware, each year, we run a Student Moving Out Campaign from April to July. Our aim is to provide useful information for students leaving rental properties and to encourage them to donate and recycle as much as possible to minimise the potential impact for landfill. We will be partnering with the British Heart Foundation for their ‘Pack for Good’ Campaign again this year to provide additional resource for donations whilst raising funds to support this charity.
Throughout the twelve years of this partnership £923,527 has been raised by students in Bath and 534.6 tonnes has been diverted from landfill. The funds raised go towards the provision of Heart Start Schemes, defibrillators, free Heart Health resources, CPR training, supporting the BHF Retail shops and research grants. In 2024 the total Bath Campaign raised over £95,250 for BHF, diverting 50.9 tonnes of material for reuse and recycling.
This year will see the return of the temporary British Heart Foundation donation banks in fifteen locations across Bath to encourage students to donate any unwanted clothing and shoes when they are having a clear out before leaving their properties for the summer. Residents are also welcome to use these street banks. The donations to these banks last year raised £61,230 for BHF, saving 32.67 tonnes from landfill and so saving B&NES just under £36k in waste and recycling costs.

2. The Sandpits on Monksdale Road, Moorlands (BA2 2JB)
3. Oldfield Lane, Oldfield Park (BA2 3LY by the school sign)
4. Third Avenue, Oldfield Park (BA2 3NZ outside The Moorfields Pub)
5. Shaftesbury Road, Oldfield Park (BA2 3LH outside the Co-op)
6. Canterbury Road, Oldfield Park (BA2 3LG outside Shaftesbury Road Memorial Gardens’ fence)
7. Junction Road, Oldfield Park (BA2 3LE)
8. Victoria Road, Westmoreland (BA2 3QY on the grass corner of Victoria Road and Brougham Hayes)
9. West Avenue, Westmoreland (BA2 3QE against the low wall by the street sign just before the bridge to Brook Road)
10. Lorne Road, Westmoreland (BA2 3BY)
11. High Street, Twerton (BA2 1BY tucked in against the low hedge near to 158)
12. Innox Road, Twerton (BA2 1ED)
13. Holloway, Widcombe & Lyncombe (BA2 4PS against the wall facing as you come down from Calton Walk)
14. Beechen Cliff Villas, Widcombe & Lyncombe (BA2 4QL tucked in by the railings)

The banks will be on site from late-April/early May and remain in place until the end of July 2025. Each bank will be labelled with emergency contact details and a list of the items that can and cannot be donated. BHF will clear all bags from the banks on a regular basis. The SCP will also monitor the sites to check that items are being cleared. If you have any concerns about items left at these donation banks, please do contact us.
Both Bath Spa University and the University of Bath are part of this campaign and have permanent BHF donation sites on their campuses and in student accommodation in the city. Private student accommodation providers are also involved. Bath College and Norland College are participating in the campaign with Bath College hosting a temporary donation bank in their carpark at the city centre site.
