Disabled parking - Twerton and Whiteway

Last year, Councillor Sarah Moore requested that several advisory disabled bays were upgraded to enforceable bays to aid parking for our less mobile residents, one of these bays is on Garrick Road and two on Highland Road.

As parking is increasingly difficult for all residents we have received more requests to convert advisory bays to enforceable bays as residents are struggling to get from their vehicle to their home due to the distance they have to park.

The key distinctions between an advisory bay and an enforceable bay is that it has a legal Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) assigned to it by the Council and it has a sign erected on a post (or lamppost) on the pavement as close to the bay as possible confirming is it for blue badge holders. All on-street bays are white with the word DISABLED painted on the road next to them. When using these bays a valid blue badge MUST be displayed as a PCN (parking ticket) can be given to non blue badge holders for parking in these bays.

This year we have requested that all other advisory bays in Twerton and Whiteway are converted from advisory to enforceable bays to make sure they can be accessed by our less mobile residents.

Only bays that have been assigned via a TRO are enforceable and so anyone who requests a new advisory bay will not have it automatically "plated".
