Leaf Clearance and Disposal

Following issues in previous years, Tim and Sarah have been working closely with the Council to ensure leaves that are collected this year are not dumped in our local park areas.

They have had assurances that there is now a clear process in place that the leaves will be disposed of in non public areas.

Sarah and Tim have also arranged for public areas of Twerton that experience large deposits of leaves on the footpaths, for example, Watery Lane and Newton Road to be cleared more regularly, making these areas safer for all to use.

Major Bus Disruption - 28th May to 30th May

Following our recent notices to confirm roads in Twerton will be closed for essential resurfacing work, we now have confirmation that the Bus service during this time will be badly affected.

We appreciate this is frustrating for a number of residents, but it is hoped that the road repairs will improve the travel through these areas.

Below are details of the altered routes proposed during this period:

Service 20 on Tuesday 28th & Wednesday 29th May (09:00-16:00 each day)

Between University of Bath and Lymore Avenue (near Oldfield Park) the bus will continue to serve the normal route in both directions. However the bus will then not serve Shophouse Road, Twerton High Street, Watery Lane or Poolemead Road in either direction. Instead, the bus will divert via The Hollow, Kelston View and Wedgwood Road to get to/from the start/end point at the junction of Poolemead Road and Wedgwood Road.

Service U2 on Tuesday 28th & Wednesday 29th May (09:00-16:00 each day)

Between University of Bath and Lymore Avenue (near Oldfield Park) the bus will continue to serve the normal route. However the bus will then not serve Shophouse Road, Twerton High Street, Watery Lane or Poolemead Road. Instead, the bus will divert via The Hollow, Kelston View and Wedgwood Road to get to the triangle at the junction of Poolemead Road and Wedgwood Road. It will then loop around the trees and resume its usual route back to the University via Whiteway, Mount Road, Rush Hill and on through Odd Down.

Service 5 on Tuesday 28th & Wednesday 29th May (09:00-16:00 each day)

Between Bath Bus Station and McDonald’s (Twerton Bridge) on Lower Bristol Road the bus will continue to serve the normal route in both directions. However the bus will not serve Twerton High Street, nor the normal stops on Newton Roadin either direction. Instead, the bus will continue along Lower Bristol Road to The Globe Roundabout and then along Pennyquick to rejoin its normal route up to Haycombe Cemetery. The bus will continue on its normal route through Whiteway, down Poolemead Road and left along Shaw’s Way. After Shaw’s Way the bus will turn left onto Newton Road and right onto Pennyquick to get to The Globe Roundabout, before travelling via the A4 and Lower Bristol Road to rejoin its usual route at McDonald’s (Twerton Bridge).

Service 5 on Thursday 30th & Friday 31st May (09:00-16:00 each day)

The majority of Service 5’s route will be as per usual, but there will be some diversions, meaning Walwyn Close, Twerton School and Redland Park stops will not be served in either direction. On the way to Whiteway, after Twerton High Street the bus will turn left and divert along Watery Lane and Shaw’s Way before rejoining the normal route at the far end of Newton Road, missing out the stops listed above. After continuing with its normal route through Whiteway, the bus will travel down Poolemead Road but instead of turning left onto Shaw’s Way will turn right onto Watery Lane, missing out the stops on Shaw’s Way and the stops on Newton Road listed above. After Watery Lane the bus will rejoin its normal route at Twerton High Street and continue on to Bath Bus Station.

Newton Road - Fallen Tree update

We are pleased to confirm that we have chased up the removal of the fallen tree on Newton Road with Curo, who have responded to say they have asked their contractor to prioritise the removal of this when they are next in the area, which they say is frequently.

We will obviously monitor this as it needs to be taken away as soon as possible.

Newton Road ( Road repairs delays likely )

Newton Road in Twerton is currently undergoing repairs to the road surface and there are two way traffic lights operating.

The works will take two days to complete and hold ups are likely.

Please avoid Newton Road if travelling by car today 31st July and tomorrow 1st August if at all possible.

Newton Road ( white lines )

We have asked the council to paint white lines on the pedestrian crossing points at Newton Road to prevent motorists parking over them.

The big issue here is we have many disabled people in the area who can not navigate the grass verges and rely on the crossing points to be able to get across the road.

The picture shown is not the worst example but point out the issue that is happening on a daily basis.

HMO planning application 69 Newton Road

We have a planning application submitted for a seven bed House of Multiple occupation at 69 Newton Road.

This application seems to be out of character for the area and I simply can't see how they can get 7 beds in this house and be able to have any living space.

The application is here to view or for comments.

Hinton Close

I have reported the mess at Hinton Close to the council and asked that it is cleaned up as soon as possible.

It looks like a lot of the mess comes from the local shop and I have asked that they are chased to ensure that they clear their mess up.

This includes the clutter that they have allowed to build up at the front of the shop.

Newton Road ( trees )

We have asked the council to inspect the trees along Newton road from 83 through to 135 after receiving complaints from residents telling us of branches both large and small falling off the trees on a regular basis.

The trees in this area are next to the roadside and have become rather large over the years and may now been in need for radical work to ensure that they are safe.

Real time Bus display

The Real Time Information display at St Michael’s School that we reported as not working has been fixed now.

We are however concerned that this has taken longer than we expected to be repaired and that not all of the buses at certain times of the day stick to the timetable that is displayed.

We have also asked that several other bus shelters that have been damaged are also repaired.

What a difference a sign makes

We are pleased to see that at last the convenience store on Newton Road has a new sign on it displaying the words Twerton Local and is now part of the Nisa chain of shops.

It seems a long time since the previous sign was damaged but we are pleased that the sign is now up and the shop looking so much better.

It also over 40 years since Cyril Bond first opened a shop on this site, how times have changed.

Newton Road ( Traffic Calming )

We are pleased that the construction works are now complete on Newton Road allowing much safer access to the local School.

In the next few weeks traffic regulation orders will be imposed on this road preventing cars being able to pull up or stop in this area during school hours.

This area has suffered form children being involved in accidents over a number of years now and we hope that these new measures will help prevent further accidents taking place.

Bus Shelter damaged

The Council are repairing the bus shelter on Newton Road that was recently vandalised after we reported that it was damaged.

The bus shelter has not been in more than a few months and already we have this mindless vandalism.

The shelter should be repaired shortly but if you have any idea who has vandalised this shelter then please let us know.

Newton Road Name plate

We have asked the council to reinstate the road name plate at Newton Road.

The name plate was knocked over several weeks ago after work was carried out by Curo contractors working on the houses in the area.

We would hope that this work would be carried out in the next few weeks.

Newton Road/Day Crescent

Curo have agreed to request their contractor to remove the skips that were used by the roofing contractor whilst installing new roofs on the houses on Day Crescent.

Residents started complaining to us that the contractors had completed their work over 2 weeks ago but the skips remained.

We are pleased at the quick response to our request to Curo as these skips had started to look rather unsightly.

Twerton Walk around with Curo

We had a very good walk around yesterday with Curo staff  and identified some items that need to be sorted out in the area.

Many thanks to Zack and his team from Curo

Newton Road

We walked along Newton Road and resolved that there needed to be work carried out on several sets of steps pictured to put railings on and repairs made. We also looked at a garden that needed to be reseeded.

Camely Green

It has been reported that a road sign to the rear of 78 needs to be replaced we would hope that this would quickly be sorted.

Cleeve Green

We have reported the missing Road sign close to 21 Cleeve Green which we would hope to have sorted shortly.

We have also again reported the crumbling wall beside number one for urgent repair and attention.

Pennard Green

We have reported the collapsing wall by the garage block for attention although it odes not seem dangerous at the moment it requires work to be done, we have also reported the dumping of garden waste in black sacks at the same location.

Shaws Way

We have reported the condition of the road surface behind 12 and the poor condition of the footpath beside the same house as well as the condition of the path from number 3 Shaws Way up to number 12 and have asked that it us given some attention.

Newton Road Traffic Calming

Bath & North East Somerset Council will soon be consulting on the alteration of traffic restrictions on Newton Road to go along with the proposed traffic calming that will be installed in the Autumn.

We will place links to the consultation on this blog.

We have badly needed traffic calming on this road for a long time now and we are pleased that the funding has been found to ensure that the safety of the children of this area has been placed as a priority.
