Leaf Clearance and Disposal

Following issues in previous years, Tim and Sarah have been working closely with the Council to ensure leaves that are collected this year are not dumped in our local park areas.

They have had assurances that there is now a clear process in place that the leaves will be disposed of in non public areas.

Sarah and Tim have also arranged for public areas of Twerton that experience large deposits of leaves on the footpaths, for example, Watery Lane and Newton Road to be cleared more regularly, making these areas safer for all to use.

Blocked drains in Twerton

I have asked the council to clear the drains at several locations in Twerton particularly the ones in Shaw's Way and Watery Lane some of which are so silted up they will not be able to take any water in to them.

With the amount of leaves that are around the matter is only made worse.

The council has to make more effort to ensure that water is easily able to drain away by keeping drains and gullies clear.

Other areas of the country have had floods in the past due to blocked drains Bath & North East Somerset have not learned  the lesson.

Even More Busses through Twerton

Following my post in July concerning the state of the roads across the Twerton area, I am extremely concerned to see we now have an additional bus service running!

We now have a number 17 service being run by Wessex Connect that comes up Watery Lane, Poolemead Road, Wedgewood Road, Kelston View, North Way and then on around areas of Southdown before going back through town and up to the University of Bath.  This bus service is running from 6.45am with the last bus scheduled to come through Twerton at approx 3.15am

This now means that the above roads have almost 200 large busses EVERY DAY running on them. These are residential roads most of which are in urgent need of radical replacement as they were deemed not to be in a fit state to take the original level of bus usage, let alone the additional quantity now being run.

There is an infant school on one of the roads and large numbers of children playing near them, putting safe routes to school in danger and also increasing the risk of children not only being injured by the increased traffic, but their health will also be affected by the increased pollution being produced across this area.

I have written to the Council this morning and requested that immediate action is taken to remedy this situation.

Hope on Drainage problems,

Bath & North East Somerset Council have responded positively to questions about drainage problems at Kelston View and Watery Lane.

We have clearly pointed out to them that drains are silted up and some completely blocked and we are concerned about low level flooding or even worse if water run offs move further down hill being unable to drain away.

We however live in hope that these drains will soon be cleared.

Blocked Drains

We have reported blocked drains in both Kelston View and Watery lane to the Council in the past few days and have asked that they are cleared as soon as possible.

It is important that all drains are kept clear and if you know of any further drains that need dealing with then please let us know.

Watery Lane

We have asked the council to clear up the awful mess on watery lane that has been there for over a week now.

We have also reported rubbish on Twerton High Street and at Dominion Road to Freeview Road footpath.

We would hope that these areas would be cleared up quite shortly.

Great Friday Litter Pick

It was good to clear the litter off of Watery Lane, Newton Road, & How Hill this morning with Councillor Gerry Curran on his regular Friday morning litter picks.

It was also very good to be joined by three residents who responded to our request for help last week.

If you want to join us on a Friday Morning then please contact Gerry or Tim and we will let you know where we are meeting, we don't put this out in advance as we want to concentrate on areas that are in a poor state and only make the decision where we are visiting on the Thursday morning before the Friday litter pick.

Resurfacing Works watery lane

I am pleased to see that part of Watery Lane has been resurfaced as this has removed some of the quite dangerous pot holes that were appearing and the worn surface that had become quite dangerous in the wet.

There are many other roads in the area that need attention but if you know of one that is particularly bad then please let us know.
