Walwyn Close abandoned Car

We have requested that Curo remove this vehicle as soon as possible.

 

The car is in a very poor condition, extremely rusty and it poses a significant danger to others in the area. It is imperative that this issue is addressed promptly to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone who uses the car park.

 

If you know who owns this vehicle please let them know before they get charged for its removal.

Bleed Kits and Defibrillators in Twerton and Whiteway

In September last year, Councillors Tim Ball and Sarah Moore were pleased to see that the 4 bleed kits they paid for from their Ward Empowerment funds, were installed around the community,

These kits have been installed at Rose Cottage, The Centurion Pub, Southside Centre and Bath City Farm. 

Two further kits have been agreed for our area, one of these is to be installed next the Bakers of Bath on Twerton High Street, where Councillor Sarah Moore has also requested a Defibrillator is also installed.

Tim and Sarah are also in discussion with Curo about the installation of a lot more kits to be put around the Twerton and Whiteway area and other Curo locations across Bath and North East Somerset.  We will update you further when this is confirmed.

We hope these will not be needed but it is reassuring to know they are available in case or emergencies.

We would also like to thank Emma Williams, a local resident in Southdown who, with the help of other residents and a number of businesses has raised a significant amount of money separately through a community go fund me page to ensure a lot more kits can be installed in other areas around Bath. The amount raised is amazing and will make a considerable difference to a number of local communities.

Curo Christmas card competition winners revealed

Elves, sleighs, snowmen, Christmas trees and cosy Christmas homes featured highly on the designs local children submitted for this year’s Curo Christmas Card competition.

We would like to say a big congratulations to the winner of the 5-9 age category eight-year-old Kassady White of Twerton, Bath. Her design imagined one of Curo’s repair vans as a reindeer-pulled sleigh.

We would also like to congratulate 14-year-old Gina Paradise, who lives in Corston near Bath, won the 10-16 age category and will see her design used on the official Curo Christmas card and the winner of the 0-4 category is Paris Lake’s colourful creation. Paris also lives in Corston and is just one-and-a-half years old.

All the winners received a £50 gift voucher and certificate, safely hand-delivered by Regional Customer Account Manager Emma Newman who came up with the idea for the competition.

Emma said: “This is the fourth year we have run our competition and even though we were in lockdown we were determined it would go ahead because it’s always so popular. We had some fantastic entries again this year and we loved viewing them all - it really brightens the day! Thanks to everyone who entered.”

Rosewarn Park - Update

Following the residents survey that Tim and Sarah carried out in 2019, a number of improvements were requested to make the Rosewarn Park area more useable for all ages.

Requests from more seating and new play equipment through to all weather sports pitch were put forward and we have been working with Curo and the Council to get funding in place to make improvements.

Tim and Sarah are delighted to announce they now have funding signed off to install a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA), which will have a low level fence around it with both football goals and basketball hoops in place.  They are hopeful the funding will be released at the end of November and will then work to arrange a suitable installation date. 

Councillor Tim Ball said “Unfortunately, this project has been delayed due to the first lockdown and staff availability, but we are pleased it is now progressing”.

This is the first stage of improvements that we are working on with Curo to try and get this whole area back in use. 

Curo are arranging for the old, broken equipment in the play area to be removed and are working with local youth groups to discuss with the younger members of the community to see what they would like in it's place.

We will confirm when the work is scheduled to install the MUGA and when further improvements have been agreed.

Redland Park (woody park)

We are concerned that this area needs to be kept together and that maintenance needs to be improved and brought this to Curo's attention.

Cllr Sarah Moore has again reminded Curo of the need to repair the lamp post in this area that we have previously reported as not working.

It is of concern that with the dark nights coming that we need Curo to repair this light without delay.

Annual Review - 2019

As this decade draws to a close, we would like to take this opportunity of thanking all of our residents that go out of their way to help make Twerton and Whiteway a better place to live.  

2019 saw the local elections where you not only voted again for Tim Ball to represent you on the Local Council but also voted for Sarah Moore to join him to make sure the Liberal Democrat team have a stronger voice for all the residents in Twerton and Whiteway.

During 2019 your Liberal Democrat team managed to resolve a number of issues to benefit the area, fulfilling some of our election promises. Some of these are listed below:

• Resurfacing of North Way, part of Redland Park and several other roads in Twerton
• Planting of new Trees in Innox Park
• Installation of new play equipment at Innox Park
• Installation of new bins across Twerton
• Installation of much needed Handrails on Kelston View
• Introduction of new bin storage being put in place in conjunction with Curo
• Installation of new Fencing in Waterloo Buildings
• Replacement of street signs in many areas

A large amount of personal casework has been undertaken on behalf of individuals across the area and resolution found to almost all of it.

Tim and Sarah re-introduced a monthly ward surgery where residents have been coming to discuss issues directly and we are pleased to say these will continue.

Whilst we still have a number of issues around the area, Tim and Sarah are committed to finding a solution to as many as they can as soon as possible over the coming months and years. 

Tim and Sarah would like to take this opportunity to wish all residents a safe, happy and prosperous New Year and look forward to talking with many of you over the coming months.

Your Councillors and Curo

Since the Summer, Tim and Sarah have been having a monthly meeting with various staff at Curo.

This increase in direct communication means that issues can be discussed and an action plan put in place to try and tackle them.

During the meetings ward specific and individual resident concerns have been raised and acted upon.

These meetings are proving very productive and will continue in the future, so if you live in Twerton or Whiteway and are struggling to get action from Curo, please do let Sarah or Tim know and they will be able to discuss this with you and possibly raise this during their monthly meeting.

Linley Close litter and rubbish update

As many of you will be aware, we have been dealing with the on-going issue of litter and rubbish in Linley Close.

We have been working closely with Curo and BANES to reach a solution to help keep this area clean and are pleased that they have now carried out works to help reduce this issue.

As you will see from these pictures, it is an improvement and hope that all residents will benefit from this.

We will, of course, continue to monitor the area and make sure this solution works for all.

Redland Park

We have been out and about talking with residents across the whole area and have picked up various issues in Redland Park.

1) We have asked Curo to install a new handrail at the steep steps at Woodview Terrace.

2) We have asked that all the parking bays are remarked so that it is easier to park.

3) We have asked for several vehicles that are not compliant with Tax and/or MoT to be removed.

4) We have had several lots of rubbish removed.

5) We are working with the Council and Curo to have the area behind st Michael's Junior School cleaned up.

6) We are constantly asking for maintenance to the lights that are owned by Curo even some that burn all day.

7) The area that is Carrs Woodland is full of rubbish some that has been tipped there and needs to be cleaned up. We are working with the Carrs Woodland group to arrange a good clear up.

Fix My Street

After receiving a presentation at last night's full Council from a Twerton resident drawing to the Council's attention the frustration that many people have been having identifying who to contact concerning street lights and community areas in Twerton, I have written to Curo suggesting that they sign up alongside the Council to using the fix my street app that would make sharing of information much easier and the complaint or question could seamlessly be allocated to the correct organisation to respond.

Many areas in Twerton are owned by Curo and many others by the Council and neither responding to residents requests without a lot of prompting.

This issue is not just confined to Twerton but is authority wide so needs a solution that covers the whole area.

Again I give thanks that this matter has been drawn to my attention and I hope that my suggestion is taken up by Curo.

It was raised by a member of the public at the full Council tonight about residents having problems with issues of who owns what in the community areas, like lamp posts  communal areas and cleaning to name but a few.

I would like you to consider using the fix my street app alongside the Council so that when residents report a problem it can be quickly sent to the right areas responsible and save duplication for both Curo and Bath and North East Somerset Council.

I am happy to enter further discussions with you on this matter before you dismiss this idea out of hand.

Rosewarn Park

We are pleased to confirm that Sarah Moore and Councillor Tim Ball are working closely with members of Whiteway Residents Association and Curo to find funding to enable the very neglected Rosewarn Park to have a makeover.

The park area has been left untouched for so long there is nothing left for children to use safely, the fencing is non existent and the whole area is in need of a big overhaul.

We will keep you updated on progress with this project but are keen to get moving with this as soon as we can, to give the children in the area a better, safer open space to play.

Blagdon Park Update

Great to see that our request to replace all the old, unreadable road signs around Blagdon Park have now been replaced.

These signs will hopefully make it easier for delivery drivers and emergency services to locate properties quicker.

We are still in discussion with Curo about the parking issues around this area that were also raised by a number of residents and will provide an update on progress with this as soon as possible.

Curo Walkabout - Twerton and Whiteway

On Friday 19th October, Tim Ball and Sarah Moore met with a representative from Curo to walk around Walwyn Close, Woodhouse Road and Redland Park area of Twerton to show him first hand how unloved the area is and discuss regularly reported issues.

He has agreed that a number of trees and bushes need to be cut back to ensure the lighting is more effective as well as regular clean up of the area.

Curo are making changes to the way they work at the moment and we will hopefully have a full update on this shortly.

On Monday 22nd October, Sarah and Tim were joined by local residents and Senior Management from Curo to take a walk around Blagdon Park, Rosewarn Close and parts of Haycombe Drive for them to see the state of the area.

We discussed parking issues and a number of vehicles have now been served a 28 day notice for the owners to either remove them or Curo will take them away.  They are also looking at other ways to ease parking problems around the area.

Residents are fed up with not being listened to and having to regularly contact Curo to get anything done.

We have said that the biggest issues residents have is the lack of communication and action.  Whilst we know money is tight for everyone, Curo understands it has a duty to provide a service to it's customers and has agreed to go back and see how they can improve this process. 

We will keep you informed of any updates we have from Curo as we receive them.

Good news for Waterloo buildings

We are pleased that Curo have confirmed that they will be replacing the old broken down fencing at Waterloo Buildings within the next month.

We would like to thank Curo  for dealing with this issue , but will be watching this area and will be holding Curo to their promises about the replacing of this fencing.

Newton Road - Fallen Tree update

We are pleased to confirm that we have chased up the removal of the fallen tree on Newton Road with Curo, who have responded to say they have asked their contractor to prioritise the removal of this when they are next in the area, which they say is frequently.



We will obviously monitor this as it needs to be taken away as soon as possible.

Linley Close Garages and play area by Centurion public House.

We have asked both Curo and the council to clear up the garage area at Linley Close and also the land behind the Centurion Public House that has got into quite a mess.

Linley Close

Due to a total lack of communication between BANES Council, Curo and Curo's management team Friday morning all the rubbish from the flats has been dragged out and left along the length of Linley Close leaving piles of black sacks to be attacked by birds.

Only one pile of rubbish along this road was cleared on Friday whilst the rest has now been ripped open by animals and birds.  Only one set of the flats that were cleared were actually due for weekly collection, therefore they should not have even been put out.

Add to this the lack of footpath maintenance and large piles of slippery leaves, this road is in urgently need of some attention.

We have asked that all the waste is cleared and that all these leaves and footpaths are cleaned up and made safe for all residents to use.

Hanna Close ( Rubbish & litter )

After receiving complaints from residents I have asked Curo to clear up the mess on the land that they own at Hanna Close as well as the hedgerows that are also in their ownership.

I hope that this will get cleared up soon and will keep an eye on this.

Windrush Close

Footpaths

We have made many requests for the green Algae that is on many of the paths to be cleaned up and despite promises from both Curo and the council not much of it has been cleared.

Trees

We have also made requests for some if the trees at the front of Windrush Close to be trimmed back and have their canopies raised.

We will keep on to both the council and Curo until these matters are resolved.
