Below are details of all planned roadworks that affect our immediate area, some may be just outside the ward but could impact your daily travel. These are shown in date order.

Shophouse Road - 16.03.2026 - 20.03.2026 - BANES - Installation of Zebra Crossing, full road closure

Shophouse Road - 23.03.2026 - 02.04.2026 - BANES - Installation of traffic calming scheme, traffic lights in place

The Hollow - 14.04.2026 - 21.04.2026 - National Grid - utility repair and maintenance work, multi way traffic lights

High Street - 20.04.2026 - 23.04.2026 - National Rail - Railway works, full road closure, this is by the railway arch leading into the High Street near McDonalds only, so a diversion will be in place at this location

Where roads are closed, we will provide full details of impacts on bus services (if applicable) closer to the date of the works. 

Some work is added to this list at short notice and we will endeavour to let residents know as soon as we have been made aware.

Poolemead Road Safety

Another priority that was raised with Councillors Sarah Moore and Tim Ball by a large number of local residents was to ensure there was a safer way to cross Poolemead Road outside Twerton Infants School.

They met with Highways offices and the school’s head teacher George Samios to discuss options to slow the traffic and narrow the road to help keep all the pedestrians safe.

The above image has been drawn up following the meeting with the officers and is what is planned to be put in place as soon as it possibly can be.

Shaws Way - Traffic disruption 1st October

On Thursday 1st October Wessex Water will be carrying out essential work to replace covers on the section of Shaws Way, between it's junction with Newton Road and Cleeve Green.

This work is scheduled to be carried out between 9.30am and 3.00pm and is likely to cause disruption to all traffic, including busses, with potential partial or full road closure possible for some of the time.

If you will be travelling by bus, we would advise you check with the local bus companies if a planned diversion is in place or if they are continuing to run via this route during the road works.

Landseer Road

The council are applying for traffic regulation orders for parts of Landseer Road and on the look of it these seem very sensible.

But after saying that we would like to hear from any residents that have any concerns about the proposals that are indicated on the Map below.

Broken hand rail replaced opposite local school

The Broken Hand rail on Poolemead Road opposite Twerton infant School has been removed and replaced with a new one we are pleased that this has been done as the steps at this location can be very dangerous.

These steps form part of our proposals for a safe crossing point for school children in this area.
